GT240 - What exhaust / carb

Postby Covboy » Wed Sep 26, 2018 6:07 pm

Hi All

What set ups are people using on their GT240s - looking for positives / negatives.

Ive a JL3 that Im thinking of using : My set up is 30mm dellorto, Breath sweet filter, Casatronic ign , cyclone 5 speed ( Think the gearing is 19/46 with a final drive ratio of 4.8 but need to check )

A clubmate tried several exhausts which didn't work well for him so I loaned him my ADS3 / CST3 exhaust and it transformed it.

What was it in particular that he liked about this exhaust? Could you summarise the characteristics?

Cheers !

Fran Race seems to be the tried and testing pipe, and the one that Rich T recommends

I'd be tempted to try a ron moss clubman but I don't know about availability.

Its me Martin is talking about, Pulls from nothing, strong mid and matches the kits designed power range.

Pulls 4.3 final ratio, cruises 65 easily all day at 6000 rpm. Will rev to about 7200 before it runs out of power. It would easily pull another gear on the motorway but it would be limited on the A roads.

Great rally machine and because of the strong mid and low revs the motor needs less maintenance than its 8000 ~ 10,000 rpm competitors. The 300 mile ride to Tenby was great through the flowing roads of Mid Wales, as was the Coast to Coast.

30mm PHBH and a Varitronic ignition. In my opinion it needs a bigger main jet with the ADS3 than GT recommend with the pipe they use.

I've been running a BGM v3 on mine and have been vry happy with it, plenty of power and amazingly flexible with no powerband to talk aboutbut I now have a Franspeed Race to put on which Im hearing will unlock more power.

Hi coaster - I will wait until you’ve done that and reported back before I do anything.
I do have a jl3 available but I’ve not come across anyone with gt240 and this pipe.
Choosing the right exhaust is a minefield and expensive if you get it wrong

I'm afraid due to a short term health issue I won't be ridding mine for 2 or 3 months, you might have a bit of a wait ;) What I would say though is that I have a JL3 I ran on a TS1 and Avanti and I personally wouldn't bother with it on a GT240. I found that although it gives some low down torque, it does cause a power band but does rev vey high, the BGM is better in every respect other than that the expansion sounds better in my view.

Think the race is quite proven now on the 240 seems to be the preferred choice for a lot of people

I had a JL3 on my Gt240 and whilst it ran fine it was a very linear power delivery. Having changed to a Fran Race I much prefer the powerband from around 5,500 rpm upwards and don't really feel I've lost anything from lower down.
