Question , is this carb ok for a TS or too small ?

Been using PWK’s for years , easy to set up and its a genuine Keihin not a copy , might give it a whirl then , ta for replies

Despite the current trend to fit ever smaller carburettors, a mate ordered a 32 mm PWK but got a 34 mm supplied. It was about a tenner or so, brand new & was checked out but required no blue-printing to match the OKO's etc. This has been fitted to his new build running a standardish 200 engine with a Scoot RS expansion chamber. Fitted with an ample sized elbow & foam filter, it has been a delight to set up, now that the power-jet is blanked off (for now…) & a 32 pilot fitted, it has not flooded @ all.


That is almost certainly because the float chamber incorporates an overflow, unlike the “PHBH much better carb” which has no such thing. In fact, the design is superior & why some European motorcycle manufacturers fit them as standard. Any good two stroke tuning book will explain why the guillotine slide is better than the four-stroke derived round slide as Amal’s & PH range Dell’Orto’s have.

Jets (such as Stage6) are available in sets of ten or so @ a fraction of the cost required to achieve a similar range with the Dell‘Orto.

The only downside to the PWK’s that I can think of (apart from the PWK spawning so many poor copies) is the lack of a built-in fuel filter. However, that has yet to be an issue….

One thing to watch is that the float bowls are on the small side so if the angle the carb sits at is slightly out, the bowl can run dry. Possible not a problem on a standardish motor but a guzzler like the TS1 might find an issue. I ran my TS1 with a 30 BGM PWK and it ran sweetly, very clean pickup but I was always a little worried about the small float bowl.
