What are folks doing to clean remote filters, either breathsweet or marchald?

What is the recommended interval for cleaning?

I wash mine out using a hot washing up liquid solution and dry it with compressed air. Works a treat.
As for how often it needs doing will vary from bike to bike. Just use best judgement.

Are these not supposed to have an oil coating to collect and trap crap?
Mine need to be done, so been looking at the cleaning kits.

The wire mesh type filters use oil as a crap catcher but foam types should be dry, even though they end up oily due to spit back.

Thanks for the feedback.

Google / YouTube suggests a special detergent solution and then a coating with filter oil but that's mainly MTX type filters - I wondered what people's real world experience was on road scooters. I did wonder about petrol and any adverse effects it might have on the glue used etc.

Not a good idea to use brake cleaner, at least not on Casa ones because it dissolves the glue and they fall apart.
