Which kit have I got.

Postby St George » Thu Sep 26, 2019 4:17 pm

Bought this engine from a novice that had a change of heart building his dream scooter. He was told it was a 185. I have been looking for trade marks, nothing found. It is an all alloy kit with just four head bolts. The inlet manifold is stamped CDC which I don't recognise. The studs on the barrels for the inlet manifold are closer together than a 150 and the port is polished. The piston and bore looked spotless so it's only a recent rebuild, but not built by the novice I bought it from. Started first time with the aid of carb cleaner and ran really nice fortunately. any ideas ? Thanks.

the studs not fitting a 150 manifold are confusing ? is the CDC (quite common) manifold slotted to fit ?

............or is it a 200 manifold slotted to fit a 150 barrel ?

CDC = Malossi (I think)

Is the barrel cast iron or Ali?

A lot of Dell'Orto (solid mount) manifolds were made by CDC (the original UK Dell’Orto importing business, Contact Developments) & many of them became modified to suit Amal, Dell'Orto etc that utilise the rubber sleeve mount. Of all the aftermarket (piston ported) inlet manifolds made for Lambretta (large frames) I consider them the best quality & nicest looking :)

sounds like an indian aluminium kit, if the inlet studs are closer than a 150 spacing I suspect they have been drilled in the wrong place, ive seen cylinders for sale on ebay with the studs fitted incorrectly it could be one of those, as said earlier a pic would help to be sure.

The kit is all alloy including the barrel. The manifold is slotted inwards to reach the studs. As for pictures ! this forum system is very dated and will not accept full size pictures. I can post pictures on the Triumph Owners Forum and Facebook as it is up to date with technology, maybe they have more funds. I have tried reducing pictures in size, still won't accept them. Thanks for replies so far.

Sometimes if you email a photo to yourself, the apps will ask you if you want to reduce the size of the file. If you opt yes, you will get a reduced size photo for very little effort.

My phone offer me this choice when I forward photos to my own email account.

you need to use a photo hosting service like Flicker or Photobucket.

Hi Lynx. Cannot tell as the engine is intact as it's a recent rebuild. Not going to pull it to bits just for a look, thanks anyway.

If it's intact how do you know it's all alloy and not steel lined?

The barrel is alloy, it may well have a liner fitted. May even pop the head off in the week as I have found a spare head gasket in the cave.

Why don't you just ask the person you bought it from?

Probably worth taking the barrel off and seeing what it is. Check the squish and head profile while you've got it apart.
