Lapping flywheel

Postby roli150lam » Sat Oct 19, 2019 10:25 am

Is it neccessary to lap the flywheel to the crank?
If the answer is yes,why are they not marketed as a pre-matched pair?

It's not neccesary to lap the flywheel to the crank. You can use lapping to recover damage to the tapers.
Just make sure the flywheel nut is tightened to the recomended torque of 50lbs/ft. (Ive corrected the torque setting after checking the figure quoted in Sticky's manual)

I always lap mine to suit so the flywheel is a good fit on the taper , matched pair  that’s being sensible

Do you lap your toupe to your napper in case of string winds?
