GT186 kit. What plug should I be using

Hello.

I’ve done about 550 miles on a new gt186 kit. Running 5 speed box. 30mm carb.
Running original Ron moss pipe.
Should I be thinking about changing the type of plug ?

I’m running denso W24ES-U. I looked at the plu and running a little rich as been running in.

Thanks for the help!

The GT manual recommends a NGK B7ES as a starting point.

Personally, for any Lambretta application that requires an NGK 'ES' plug I'd prefer to substitute it for an 'EG' type.

The EG type is the one with the thin center electrode while the ES has a standard center electrode. The EG is less prone to plug fouling and has (allegedly) a stronger spark hence better combustion.

The EG are quite a bit more expensive than the ES.

Champion N3G would be my recommendation. Always found them to give very good service and longevity.

Here in the US the NGK EG plugs are between $1.25 - $3.50 more each, depending on where you buy, and if individually, or in a box of 4. IMHO it's worth the extra coin.

I use the same Denso plug in my GT240, its the equivalent heat range to the BS7 but Denso plugs are not cloned so you dont caught out if buying from ebay. Ive had several NGK plugs fail over the years but never had any issues with Denso.
