Mark,if I was Tino or Vittorio,I would have sent you at least one free kit, minimum,
this mod is going to help their sales,a lot,
I ordered mine after reading your post (the epic one :) ;) )

Almost done,
need a small tie wrap and to use the resin.

:D ;)

Checked the correct length of the wires, cut them and fitted the bullet terminals.
I used the test bike that I only have for this task
It was a good time to also check the fitment of a new velocity stack on a spare right handed Amal,
mmmm, I'll have to make one more hole on one more original SX200 panel, sorry Mr Innocenti

Testing finished,
lights are very bright and steady, night riding is safe, not afraid of the dark :) I use standard type bulbs front and rear,no led,no halogen,
my Lucas are also working perfectly but I'm not going to remove the covers,
I'll do in the future a similar conversion on another lammy that has the Lucas spots uncovered,I'll post a video then.

Exhaust, carb, cylinder and gearbox are working in harmony,I'm satisfied.

Teaser video.

The rattling noise is from the inner front disc at the hub.
Use hearing protection ;)

Looks great , I tackled mine and to my surprise I went quite well. Other tan fixing the cable tie on the wrong side so hindered refitting but soon sorted . Thanks Mark (Captain ) and Dimitrios for all the input :D

Hi i'm interested in attempting this conversion I have recently done a re-build and have a varitronic and as i'd added a couple of pathfinders i decided to add a battery and run everything via the battery (DC - from bgm pro regulator) apart from the main headlight (AC). I tried to use a relay to operate the DC circuit i.e when ignition switch is on operate the relay, but as it was AC and only giving an output of around 8v the relay(12 v dc) would not operate correctly and chattered.
Quick question what output does this conversion give at low revs ie tick over- will it drive a 12v dc relay ? And would there be enough power to run 35w headlight, dc horn, led rear light, and occaisional pathfinder (either fog or spot)?
cheers
Gazza

Over the last couple of years I've been changing away from DC setups (12V and 6V), for the maintenance-free AC option, so have no intention of playing with these but thought I'd drop a line to say, "What an interesting read!" Very informative and up to the Captain's usual high standards. Dimitrios has done a fine job with his setup too :)

Nice work guys and thanks for sharing.

:) The hardest part of the project was to wait for the Italian post to send me Tino's vintage look CDI for Varitronic.
Captain did a fantastic job with the mod.

Gazza, it will probably support original lamps but it will be much better if you use LEDs at the pathfinders.

A video with AC 35W headlight and 12V LEDs Lucas fed from the battery :) ,
DC is much much better now but I don't have a video, all the lights are steady even at tickover.
