What sort of gearing is recommended/used on this kit as a matter of interest and what revs are you seeing when running at 60-65mph?

If I remember correctly, RaveyDavey is running Li150 gearbox with 47/18 giving an FDR of 4.44

From the (translated ;) ) kit instructions, MQ recommends an Li150 gearbox and, interestingly, a Clubman/Varitronic/Dellorto VHST 26 set-up using 4% 2T oil ratio.

Dave, are you using a 4% mix?

Not sure about his running-in instructions though... Do not force the engine during the running-in phase, even 10 tanks :?: :?

Dropped my casings in earlier with my friendly ali-welder to have the gasket faces built up a bit 8-)

If true, that is quite amazing :o

I was speaking to Martin about using either the AF close ratio or the 5 speed. I think the shop demo bike has a GP200 box in it. I could be wrong. No additional porting, or work done, but I thought it has a 32mm Delortto and expansion. Went like hell. :D

Sorry for the late response. I can confirm the above. 47 tooth AF cassette clutch with an 18 tooth sprocket on a LI150 box. The jump between 3 and 4 is pretty big so If im riding with others I spend a lot of time in 3rd. A 5 speed box wouldn’t be a bad idea. Although if you’re riding solo, as I tend to most of the time, give it the beans, get it above 5.5k revs in 4th and it’ll stay up there quite comfortably. Plus it will accelerate rapidly from high 50s to high 70s. Starts to get scary at 80 :D

I’m now running Maxima K2 at 3%.

That is really quite astonishing, most 225 or bigger won't pull 4.4 gearing. What is so special about the porting? he must be tapping into something new, make you wonder what he could do with a big block

My MB tuned RT 235 runs 47/18 on an li 150 box and makes 20 ft/lb of torque, pulls like a freight train everywhere with a nice jump between 3rd and 4th even loaded down with luggage.

That stuff is about £18 a litre, is that really necessary?

Did CST say to use 3% Dave? Only ask because the kit instructions say 4% but I do understand 3% is seen as an optimum these days.

Started using Putoline Classic Scooter X about six months ago (changed from MX-5) after reading up a bit on 2t oil. It's designed for cast/ali-nik and more up to date technology than MX-5 apparently, Readspeed were involved I think and I spoke to a scooterist that works for Putoline, helpful and seemed straight up. So far so good.

It might be overkill but I've spent a mint on the bike and engine so I don't want to scrimp a few quid on oil. Plus when I blew it up the first time, there wasn't much oil residue compared to what I would have expected to see. It was a toss up between this and silkolene pro 2.

Edit...I was using Rock Pro Sysnthesis 2.

I did a mix test between the two: cap full in a measuring jug with petrol. The maxima just mixed almost without needing to swirl it. The rock oil took a lot more effort to mix. It was a no brainier. For the record I do still use rock in my RT engine which doesn't rev any where near as high as my quattrini

Have heard that about Rock Oil. A mate did a similar test with the Putoline with good results, easy to mix and stayed mixed and covers the engine internals well.

It's got bags of torque. Twos up doesn't seem to have much impact on performance either. I had my missions on the back riding around the mountain twisties ofthe Picos de europas. My only issue was my lanky frame and knees pointing east and west with her on the back

Despite rumours there is nothing official about him doing a big block kit, which is a damn shame because I would be the first in the queue to get one if he did.

In case anyone is still interested, I’m now 4000 miles in on my Chiselspeed built Quattrini and I’m still loving it. Ive added an EGT so I can see what’s happening when I hoon it, which is most of the time. It’s still happy as Larry riding all day at 60-65, but now I can see when it’s getting hot I can sit at 70-75 and it doesn’t miss s beat. Technique is to keep rolling the throttle. My main jet is rich so whenever the temperature is looking too hot I blip the throttle Wide open a couple of times and it drops straight away. Fuel consumption is still very good. There may be some downsides but I haven’t found them yet.

Glad its working out for you mate. I was contemplating building one earlier on in the year but got cold feet as it would have been one of the first ones and didn’t want to take the risk on an untried kit, but as things have turned out it really is something quite special.

Great to know its going well. I have a new project and its a toss up between a GT or Quattrini...the more hard miles done on yours the more Im convinced :D
