Couldn't you fit some sort of spacer between the manifold and carb to bring it out a few mls?

Does a normal Steel cowl fit? What has Chiselspeed used? Or is it the PHBH carb thats the difference ?

The rubber on the manifold looks like it can be reveresed but it'll put the carb at an angle. As I've only got an unmounted kit I can't work out if there's a right and a wrong way to fit the rubber. It looks right with the carb flat, as pictured, but may be ok with it turned around so that it gives more clearance. Most carbs end up fitted at an angle so it may not be an issue.
What about frame clearance? It may be an issue.

A thin spacer would sort it out. I've managed to get .5mm gap; with loads of fettling. If it vibrates against the cowel when its running I'll speak to CST to see if they can supply / recommend a spacer that will fit.

They were skeptical as to whether an S1 cowel would fit, without a 10 mil spacer. Whatever you use you'll need to chop a load out of the top to get it round the manifold.

I'm not sure it would work properly the other way. I dont really want to try right now. Its all sealed and leak tested. NOt having ever had someone build a motor for me before I'm reluctant (at this point) to start dismantling. I know..Wimp! right! :?
I've still not got it as far as the frame

I still need to get the forks back from my mates (who's welding damper brackets on). I'll be getting the rest of it together over the weekend. Fingers crossed the motor will be in there in the next couple of days. I'll share pix. :D

Scooter porn.
I spoke to Martin regarding my S1 casings. The only thing that came up was Martin heavenly recommended using the Cassa safe rear hub, not the original hub.

If you have the measurements for the bolt holes to connect with the reed block I have a spacer which will solve your problems, if & I say if the measurements are the same.

Scott.

Use this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9-Sheets-Car ... SwIFtaL0gT or similar, remove carb, cut to shape and stick on the cylinder cowl,re-fit carb.

Great idea. I've actually got some rubber sheet coming to sit under a battery. I'll see if I can make that work.

Thanks Scott. I'll try the above and if that doesn't look like a long term solution I'll PM you.

Hi,
if you rotated the carb manifold rubber 180 degrees doe's that lift it away from the cowling it's just that looking at the third photo the carb doe's look to be angled downward?? Or is it just the carbon cowling? anyways best of luck with the motor it will be good to hear some more road ridden reports.

In summary you are both absolutely correct...

The thing with the engine being in the kitchen, I walk past it a lot. This has been nagging at me for days, to the point that today, just now in fact, I grabbed my tools and turned the rubber up the other way; including a healthy dollop of loctite silicone to seal it back up. The difference is night and day. I can now get my fingers under the carb. Put the engine at the angle it will be on the bike; looks slightly tilted but no more so that on my other machine, and that works fine. So right now I'm feeling pretty pleased. :D I'm just crossing everything that its air tight.

My mate has just messaged me to say my forks are ready to pick up. I've also had an email from Glasgow lambretta to say my wheels are on route. It's Showtime!! 8-) 8-)

There has to be a major catastrophe to stop me getting the engine in and running this weekend.
