Small block case mods

Looking at the max Q kit and the dyno chart the Germans put up.
If it's right there's a massive torque gain 50% to be had from opening up the transfers.
Is it possible to cut back the case and add a wider packer, say 8mm to avoid welding.
There appears to be enough depth for the studs.
