Sorry,I didn't make myself clear ;)
I have the 3rd, 150 special frame that the factory produced in January 1965.
It is a chrome ring frame.

My mistake, I thought you meant the 3rd version after Sept '65.

I have an 1964 Italian import Li150 special in silver which has thin type levers and the engine mounts we painted white so I believe it's in the first year of production.
There weren't any holes in the leg shields for a silver special badge

My 64 Italian imported 150 special is the same Meds It also has the white engine mounts . I believe I read somewhere that the production date of my frame was Feb 1964 but I can't remember where I read it
As a matter of interest what are the first 4x frame numbers on your 150 special ? mine starts 150LIS* 2323xx

I asked the same question about the fibreglass mudguard on my 64 150 special and it seems some of them were fitted with fibreglass mudguards.(The last 3 digits of my frame are 359, we may be able to date our scooters to a batch)
I can't remember who told me but It was a good enough source that I replaced it with another fibreglass one.
the replacement came from Gran Sport scooters in Birmingham.
If you do a bit of digging online there are a couple of professionally restored 150 Specials with fibreglass mudguards.
Failing that contact Rimini
There was thread on the subject of fibreglass mudguards 3 years ago but Unfortunatly it's lost.

This is useful info ! ;) I've been thinking of fitting a GRP mudguard temporarily whilst looking for what I'd assumed would have been an original metal one .
My 64 arrived minus the mudgaurd unfortunately. It looks like it had been ripped off in an accident as the fixing holes in the legshields have been enlarged where the fixing bolts were torn out.

the first 4x numbers are more usefull really as you can fix the date of the frame from the first four .
My chassis No is 150LIS* 2323 which I believe puts the manufacturing date at Feb 1964 ;)
Have you posted a piccy yet of your Special as you got it :?:

The bezel looks a bit too shiny to be original. The logo looks like Zodi? although there is an Italian lock makers called Zadi.

found some interesting letters stamped into my crankcase last night that I hadn't noticed previously.
Has anyone else got anything stamped on the top of their crankcase rear suspension bracket or knows what they signify ?

Meds wrote:I was told that the 150 Specials only came in silver and gold, the silver ones were later badges as Silver Specials and the name stuck for all specials in silver, hence why you see 64 silver specials.
My 64 special doesn't have the holes for the silver badge but had all the correct bits for that year, that would back up your findings about proper Silver specials not being made until 65.
I don't know about the golden specials.
As for the M8 thread 14mm AF nuts and bolts this is quite common (and use to confuse the hell out of me ) until one of the fitters at work said that full standardisation didn't happen until until mid 60s. Ritch Presley use to sell the M8 14 mm AF nuts for wheel rims.
What's was worse was having a mixture of 13mm and 14mm AF wheel nuts on the one hub.

I thought that only one set of the wheel fixings was 14mm,the others being 13mm. the idea being that it would reduce the likelihood of a rim being loosened whilst attempting to remove a wheel from the hub (coz the socket wouldn't fit on).

My guess is it would be the engine builders personal mark but I guess we will never know .
It would be usefull record these obscure details as they may one day build up a picture of manufacturing information now lost
What year is your special ?

Never thought of it like that, stunningly simple idea. I have never had a machine that hasn't been messed around with so they always seemed to be mixed up on the wheels and rims. I use to change the, all for nice new nylocks
Cheers for the info
