Further to my earlier post I also noticed that when I stripped the carb' down there was no gasket between the top & main body - is that a mistake by previous owner or is a gasket not essential?

I believe the 5899-4 will run a little richer than the 5899-5.
It is possible the previous owner jetted it up as it sounds like Innocenti never fully bottomed the 125 Special jetting

hi all , im currently restoring my 125 special and unfortunately ive had to purchase some remade panels (supposed to be of the better quality from buzz but ive spent a few days knocking them about with a shrinking hammer and now in the "FULL SKIM" of filler luckily for me im a panel beater and it doesnt cost me ) anyway back to what i was asking , due to the fact they are repo they dont have the holes in them so does anybody do templates for the badge holes ? especially the "lambretta"
many thanks

the SH1.18 and SH1.20 did not have a gasket for the slide top cover and the body. that gasket was introduced on the SH2.22 which is bigger. I dont think anyone makes one that would fit a 18 or 20 either...

Just stripping the 150 Special motor which hasn't been apart since new by the look of it inside the casing. For something that's done 61000 k the only wear was to the chain and top guide and .5mm on the gear endfloat. The crank seals were rock hard and needs a crank rebuild , top end has a newish Asso 57.8mm piston with thick rings so just a clean up should do. Interestingly the gearbox has the late thick 3rd loose gear but the cluster is drilled for the pressure plate which according to Sticky book it shouldn't? I'll be changing the Dansi flywheel though as it shows movement between the boss and casting. Is it possible to mix a Dansi stator with a Ducati flywheel or will I need a Ducati stator as well? Sorted ,just lathed the centre out on the stator.

Another question I have is after reading various literature ,the Silver was only produced between May and Sept'65 but I keep seeing "Silvers "for sale on '64 plates? Anyone explain?

More interesting facts.
All the wheel nuts and seat bolts are 14 mm headed
The forks have the I logo on the casting and are drilled as per Ser 2 but without the welded lower cable guide
Grease nipples fitted to all cables apart from speedo
The Phillips headlight bulb even has an IGM number.

I was told that the 150 Specials only came in silver and gold, the silver ones were later badges as Silver Specials and the name stuck for all specials in silver, hence why you see 64 silver specials.
My 64 special doesn't have the holes for the silver badge but had all the correct bits for that year, that would back up your findings about proper Silver specials not being made until 65.
I don't know about the golden specials.
As for the M8 thread 14mm AF nuts and bolts this is quite common (and use to confuse the hell out of me ) until one of the fitters at work said that full standardisation didn't happen until until mid 60s. Ritch Presley use to sell the M8 14 mm AF nuts for wheel rims.
What's was worse was having a mixture of 13mm and 14mm AF wheel nuts on the one hub.

It's odd about the wheel nuts as according to Restorations website 14 mm AF nuts were only fitted to Ser 1+2's. I really think that Innocenti just used whatever was in stock at the time and probably had stock rotation so that any older parts were used up before newer items were used?

Hi Wack I've not heard of particular switch I'm gonna take out the original switch and have a closer look. Is that your original switch?

I didn't know the switch make and bought an original key based on the number on the barrel. Apparently each manufacturer had a set amount of numbers to work to,so the number on the barrel identifies the maker. I've seen a list somewhere but can't remember where.

Did the later 125 specials (with clip in buffers and square horncast badge) have clip on panels or handles?

Not sure if the late models changed to clip ons ,certainly the SX 's did which superceeded the Specials .The only mod was to change from the panel roller wheel to the black plastic block?

How accurate is the info about the frame production numbers?
I have the second 150 Special frame of 65.
I always had the feeling that it was a 64 frame :)
