My Li 150 Special was first registered here in the UK on 8 April 1968, and was neither silver nor gold but originally painted white with all-red sidepanels and horncasting. It has an octagonal headlamp rim, but no chrome ring below that. The sidepanels are the TV3/GT200 style.

The scooter was a horrible shade of green when I bought it in 1993 (and had a fibreglass GP front mudguard), but I managed to contact an early owner, and he confirmed that it was white and red when he had it.

A photo of the restored scooter appeared in "Scootering" magazine in December 1997 (Issue No 144), and on the back cover of JetSet No 92 March-April 1998 (for those who still have copies!!)

Further to a thread about petcocks for early 150 specials I have added an image of the petcock that came with my 64 Special 150 .
It would be interesting to see what other early special owners have fitted to theirs as I am not sure if mine is original equipment or not.

My '65 Special has the same tap and looks to be factory fitted.

I've got a Lis150 (2123×××) 1964.
Fiberglass mudguard.

So my recently imported 1964 LiS 150.
Chrome ring, roller panel clips, was originally silver but no Silver front panel badge, special rear badge behind seat and fiberglass front mudguard. All looks totally original.
Question.... Will the SX style chrome mudguard trim fit over the raised piece of the front mudguard. Can't remember how it was on my old Sx150.

Hi all, ive just brought an LI 150 Special and would really appreciate some advice on this...

Its in desperate need of a full restoration, which im more than happy to do, ive decided that i would like to make this a concourse restoration, however there seems to be a mountain of information on the net, but a great deal of it is contradicting, so what i would like to know is first...

colours, the scooter is a 1966 model, (my preferred colour would be the azzurro blue) but not sure if it was available in the 150 model.
Also, should all of the internals (mudguard, air filter, cowlings etc) be white ? and if so, what colour white..

Rubbers, what colours please.

handlebar ends , polished or painted ?, numbers on the gears, blank or red (as ive seen)

Thats a starter for 10, so as i said at the start, any assistance would be gratefully received..

Trevor.

Lambretta restoration guide by Vittorio Tessera
Lambretta the difinntive history by Vittorio Tessera
Both of these books worth having(imo)contain the information you're looking for.

While you are at it I’d add

Lambretta illustrated guide to the identification - vittario Tessera

Every change to each model by frame number.

Anoraks guide to some - fascinating to me

Should also say to check your frame number whether it should have silver / golden badge on the legshields. However if you are planning to paint a none standards colour don’t suppose it matters

Thanks Booker T, no my intention is to go back to original in every way, so although I like the blue, if it's supposed to be silver then it will be silver... I didnt even realise the book existed, but very pleased it does, brought 1 yesterday so just waiting for it to arrive...
That's my long winter evenings sorted :D :D

Did Li Specials destined for the UK have batteries ?
I have a 66` special that i bought from Camlam( in bits ) a good few years ago that doesnt have a battery tray but the frame had been used for racing as i had to have a few parts welded back on ( brake lever pivot being one ) .

The answer is yes if it was intended for UK market. I reckon if it has been raced it will have been cut off.

One thing I heard from an Italian collector who seemed knowledgeable said, for every 15-20 Silver Specials a Golden Special was done which makes them reasonable rare. Anyone heard similar figures?

Does anyone know the number of Golden Specials made? I was told by a guy in Italy a while ago that, they made 1 Golden for every 15-20 Silvers. It then makes me wonder how many Silver and Golden Specials were made? You can see the overall 150 Special production figures of just under 70,000. Say Silvers and Goldens were 50k, Golden ones made could be around 15k making them very rare. I know they also made a rare run of Red Specials as well.
