Anyone know how to tell the difference between late Italian GP plastic choke/petrol levers and Indian ones?

Going to go for Hawthorn White for my DL200E , this might provoke debate on the subject of colour originality but for me I want for mine to be a little different from what is perceived as standard, especially as you don't see that many Italian GP/DL's in Hawthorn White anyway. (Famous last words for that last comment as I expect a deluge of White GP's pictures from fellow members to prove me wrong !!) :o

In 1976 I went to Beaulieu motor museum. I'm sure there was a white electronic on display there.

Lets just say, Hypothetically, if one had obtained a GP frame with the innocenti stamp and the appropriate star stamps but no frame numbers OR IGM/DGM numbers, in addition to which it was clearly untampered with, un-used, what is the best way forward.....Were these readily available? How many were made? Are there any records at all of such things?........I know the old cliche "its only worth what someone is willing to pay" but what do you think it should/would be?....What would be the best use that could be made of such a item? On the other hand I guess as Italian (or is it? ) it would be almost unique.......Unless you can tell me otherwise !!!!

In years gone by the dealer would have been allowed to use the frame and stamp numbers on that came from the damaged frame it was replacing. As you will be aware this practice is not allowed now. There are no records afaik to say how many non stamped frames were made or any records to say how many frames are in use. Perhaps to a collector it would have a value equal to or perhaps more than a GP frame. To others it would just be bother. There are a couple about. There was a non stamped Li frame on eBay a year or so ago in Malta. Didn't fetch a great deal from what I can remember.

I know of only one unstamped GP200 frame that belongs to Jem Booth he had it for sale at one point on here with all NOS parts to build bike :shock: ,i was of the understanding that when Lambretta dealers did a frame change the frame came unstamped as with engine cases and they put the number on can any GP owners from the late 60s 70s verify that.

However last year this GP200E frame was on ebay claiming it was NOS in original packaging but it has numbers?

I cannot remember much about the frame I saw re DGM nos. This would be one way to know what frame it was ie GP150,GP200. The frame I saw had no numbers ie 22/2 123456. The frame on eBay you refer to was the subject of some debate and I seem to remember the consensus was it wasn't nos. Perhaps a frame being returned to someone once repairs had been carried out. I had a discussion about this the other night (as you do when you are out having a pint!) and we tried to work out exactly what the dealer would have used to stamp the numbers and would it have been so important back then to get the numbers lined up etc. There must be some people with replacement frames that have an answer. Xenia on here sold a nos GP frame a couple of years back.

Did anyone save the outcome of the detailed thread on GP Red paint codes that ran in the previous forum? Or maybe have a copy of what ended up in print Scootering or Jetset?

i believe it was only for uk market for vehicle lighting laws in that period that needed a parking light.

I've started restoring a 1971 original British registered GP 125 and am wanting to get it back to
pretty much original spec body wise.When I bought it the tool box had been swapped out for a
chromed metal one.The frame has the hinge for the plastic petrol flap and it has the big holes
for the rear light also the plastic horn grill.
What I'd like to know is can anyone tell me if the toolbox should be black or grey?
The reason I ask is I have a late 1970 GP 200 which has plastic petrol flap and horn grill and it
has the black toolbox but I can't seem to find pictures anywhere of the 125 with the black
toolbox,only the grey.
It also has no battery tray and no signs of one ever being there but was definitely registered new
here in 1971
Any feedback would be much appreciated

^^The toolbox will have been black and GP125s (including British market ones) were never fitted with a battery tray.

Thanks for that,I've got one but just wanted to make sure before fitting it.
Just out of curiosity do you know why the battery tray wasn't fitted? Was it
just because that model wasn't going to be exported?

if any one is going to restore gp in yellow ocra and the sidepanels are good paint would you consider a swop mine has really good panels , but some one has painted them poorly in the early 80s...please get in touch even if you have some for sale...

Agree with TT ....I had a brand new GP125 in 71 .....just out of interest I've been trying to trace my old scoot .....it was originally Turquoise and then later changed to Yellow Ochre....reg JXD7K ....isn't that is it?

I have a GP200 that was imported from Denmark around 10 years ago which has a battery tray. Obviously I don't one how it got to Denmark originally.

^^^ I doubt there are any records remaining that would show the number made by colour, but turquoise GP150s definitely exist but they are rare, non of the books written by the experts seem to acknowledge it as a 150 colour. I also have a one made in 1971.
