Youngest Italian Lambretta

Postby Stevie W » Thu Dec 15, 2016 6:29 pm

After a short 43 year break from Lambretta ownership, a few months ago I bought a 1971 GP150 which had been recently been imported into the UK from South Africa and was in need of restoration . The frame number indicates that it was one of the last built with only a further 107 produced. This has got me thinking, of the last 107 how many are left and how many are in the UK? Is there any way of finding out? as I find it quite exciting to think that I may own what could possibly be the youngest/newest Italian Lambretta in the UK.

There's no way of telling that it is the youngest registered, only DVLA would know that. No way of even telling if it is the youngest that we have authenticated as our database isn't that sofisticated.

Just thinking out loud on a similar theme but at what point did they stamp the frame and engine ?

Before or after build , at the point of dispatch from the factory ?.

Back to your scoot , sounds great - any SA specific mods ? :D

The frame and engines are stamped at manufacture and the South African bikes were badged as DL's but built to UK specs with a battery tray. I have been reliably informed that S.A. Lambretta's were shipped there via a UK supplier, possibly due to trade restrictions during the apartheid regime .
