It's a shame that the profit motive of even respected dealers means that they sell brand new inferior chain. The particular one that I have had experience of is Rolon, which I take out of any engines & replace.
Since 1973 I have not experienced any problems with OEM chain or any manufactured by genuine European/Japanese dealers that has not been down to other issues, notably in a full race engine. I wouldn't expect to, as the same duplex 3/8" stuff is used in industry, in cars & motorcycles.
However, you will tend to find those that advocate Iwis chain above all others, so beware of that.
By all means save yourself your hard earned cash by shopping with Industrial Power Transmission suppliers & cut through the Bullsh1t mentality that surrounds 'our' chain by checking the technical specifications (on line) for the likes of Iwis, Regina, Renold, TDCross & Morse prior to purchase. If anybody can actually prove the significant superiority of one particular chain, I would be glad to be enlightened.
If it were me, I would avoid the brands not renowned for chain, even though they may be suitable. Examples include a famous tyre manufacturer.....
(I hesitate to say it, as I've been ripped off in the past by slackers on this Forum because I cannot turn a blind eye to safety issues such as wheel stud threads stripped, front brake lever pivot points broken, fraying front brake cables, mismounted front ends etc, but if you get really stuck, I can supply any chain length, riveted or linked to suit)
