Flooding

Postby Rob861 » Sun Jan 19, 2020 12:02 pm

Had the scooter back a couple of weeks apparently had new jets in (jetex 22mm) it now starts without choke & if left a couple of minutes it floods. The original problem was it wouldn’t run without the choke. The repair centre told me not to leave it ticking over as when running in it will flood. I don’t understand how it will flood when running in but be ok when run in surly the fuel runs through the carburettor the same. Any views on this

I would say your "repair centre" are talking crap and don't understand 2 stroke engines with carbs

I think for us to help you we need to know what your engine spec is, are you using a filter, what jets and slide you have in the carb and what number plug you're using

The jets should be numbered even if they're jetex!! Sticky's book will tell you what they should be

I’ve looked in the book what they should be but I can 100% say the ones in have no numbers on them

I would order all new jets! as with no numbers on your jets there's no way of knowing if they're right, also the slide as the 150 and the 200 ones are different

Your "Repair Centre" have no idea what they are talking about.
When set up properly you should be able to leave the scooter for weeks with the fuel left switched on (although it's not advisable) and the float needle valve will shut the fuel off preventing it from flooding.
The float is possibly swollen, punctured or sticking on its pin. ALL easy fixes.
Makes my blood boil when owners get duped by so called "experts" who do not know what they are doing.

It is frustrating I don’t have any space to do anything nowadays but I am definitely getting ripped off by the so called experts

A lot of cheap chinese carb jets have no numbers on them. I presume these were designed for mass market fixed carbs and so dispensed with the expense of etching these jets and atomisers.

Those carbs have a generic issue with the float jamming on the spindle. By running a fine drill through the float stops the problem. There was a thread on this a couple of years ago.
