Sadly, due to being made redundant very soon, it may be a while until I get to build it. :|

Bad luck mate, shitty thing to happen at anytime let alone this time of year and with a project to complete. The paint looks great though, worth all the hard prep work

Many thanks. Finding a decent job certainly isn't easy!

Thank you kindly. I have two projects on the go (the other one is a car). If I don't take too long finding a job, there should hopefully be a bit of redundancy money to hurl at my projects! :)

I finally got round to collecting this assortment of freshly painted junk today. Now I'm officially flat broke! First job when I landed was to trial fit the side panel embellishments - their mounting holes usually shrink due to paint thickness. Careful rogering with a screwdriver opened the holes just enough for a snug fit.

Many pieces needing packing away until I can afford to buy the stuff needed to build the thing.

Biggest bits will be wrapped up and stored in the garage until the time comes.

Got all the painted pieces unwrapped on the living room floor.

Side panel badges carefully fitted.

Toolbox mounting brackets riveted on.

As you can see, I bailed out of sanding and polishing this back to its original plastic finish. It was just taking far too much time. (I'm not usually bothered by laborious tasks, but this was ridiculous!)

Whilst looking through the parts I already have for the rebuild, I spotted then biffed in the chrome steering lock ring that I bought for this many years ago.

Progress has been painfully slow on this.

Should speed up a bit when I get my redundancy money though! :)

Careful removal of paint from key areas allowed the steering lock gubbins to be fitted, closely followed by the dip switch, throttle + gear controls and finally the headstock clamp.

A bit late I know but the best metyhod for stripping paint from anything is caustic soda. You can buy it in granular form from B&Q very cheaply, fill a large bucket with warm water and tip at least on pack in and give it a stit. It will get quite hore as the crystals disolve. Fully imerse your components and leave for 24-48 hours, an occationa scrub will help if there are multiple layers. The caustic will eat through grease and grime as well. Be very carefull with it as it gives off chlorine gas so a ventillated area is needed and wear long marrigold gloves and be carefull not to get it on your clothes/skin. It will not harm steel or plastic but DO NOT use on ally or mazak.

Also works for cleaning blocked exhausts

I stripped the paint off the tool box by soaking it in thinners - I had intended to sand and polish the scuffed and scratched plastic to a smooth, semi gloss finish. That was the part that took too long. Good to know that caustic soda can strip paint though - I've used it to remove anodising from alloy before, but never paint. 8-)

As above, its used on a lot of Indian repro stuff, its the suff corgi cars and toy guns were made of. If youve ever bought a repro SX headlamp rim then that would be Mazak with a chrome finish. Low strength and very brittle

Mazak (formerly trademarked as ZAMAK) is a family of alloys with a base metal of zinc and alloying elements of aluminium, magnesium, and copper.

Wow - the scooter paint job is looking well smart.

Ive got a similar shade of blue on my Li series 3 sidepanels combined with original white patina on the frame and other bits.
Its a shade of Bentley blue. Youve done what i did and painted the Lambretta badge white - nice touch!

Keep the photos coming!

Thank you kindly :D
Still trying to find a new job, but managed to grab a bit of time on this today. Stand and splash plate went on.

All the threads on the handlebars, horn case and tail light housing were cleaned up, then had suitably sized taps run through them so that the screws ran in nicely.

The rear frame badge holder got a quick polish, and was fitted before time was up.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I get back on it.
