Petrol tap modification

Postby Knowledge » Tue Oct 06, 2020 10:18 am

I have just acquired an OMG rear exit fuel tap for a standard machine, but the pipe for the reserve is so long, it will run onto reserve after half a tank of fuel. Not good.

How can I remove the filter from the tap so I can cut down the length of the reserve pipe? Will it just pull off? It seems very tight.

I have just done one, they are tight but an interference fit, I had to get pliers on the solid rim just above the thread (just enough purchase) and twist.
Agree, they are ridiculously long

They are often screwed into the holder to twist it as you go. Of course a bigger tank will hold more going onto reserve so I cut mine down to around an inch.

Not yet mate. Life is getting in the way at the moment. Perhaps tomorrow. I will let the world know if I succeed.

I am still concerned that the gauze of the filter will tear

Thanks Roli. Yes, mine was a screw fit, but I only confirm that after I had pulled it out the hard way. Oops.

Never mind, it screwed back in ok after I had cut down the reserve pipe. No damage done.
