Postby soullad » Fri May 11, 2018 11:11 am

Hello all,
A warm welcome awaits you again at the Flying Eightball Rally May 18-20
At our usual place, the Angel Pub, Larling, Sallow Lane ( old A11) Norwich,
NR16 2QU
I’m sure most of you will have seen the advert in Jetset with the Rally info, but just to reiterate that there’s acres of camping space, hot showers etc but there is very limited accommodation which is available on a first come first served basis. Please pm if you need accommodation and I will try and help.

We look forward to seeing you soon, safe journey
Ian

Thank you for putting on such a brilliant rally. I came over for just a few hours yesterday (Saturday) was warmly welcomed by a very friendly chap in a flying 8 balls shirt who showed me the honesty box box for tea, coffee, stickers and tee shirts. Brilliant! super chilled and friendly atmosphere, great location.
I've not been to this event before but I'll definitely be there again.

Excellent rally as always - Thanks to the 8 ballers... I'm the poor sap who provided Saturday's entertainment as we tried and failed to push start my S type up and down the road outside the Angel.. Followed by engine strip to find piston rings well and truly stuck in the ring grooves (using Exol fully synth at 3% !) after a 4 hour rebuild including using the barbecue (thanks big Jim)to heat the piston to try and weaken the blackened gum. Despite seriously bending one ring in digging it out we were able to straighten it out sufficiently to allow for a put it back together and hope type run for home... Pleased to report I made the 136mile trip at a steady pace - 12 litres of rock oil ordered this morning ...

I had this problem using Exol so change oil and had no more problems.

Glad you made it home ok, I was the one that said it was most likely stuck rings after you'd given up pushing. I only live 4 miles from the event and did offer to go and fetch some spare rings but one of you mates said you had a spare set with you :?

Thanks for the offer - I didn't have spare rings so we just threw the existing one back in ! The last 50 miles from horn castle up the the Humber B and home were a bit nerve racking - had no oomph for the hills and anything over 50 caused temps to rocket up - still despite that we made it back - though thought we might have to break out the old washing line tow rope

Great rally Eight Ballers. Well done, especially for organising the weather (though the frost on Saturday morning was a surprise).

Thank-you for the Best Lambretta trophy. I sent a photo to my wife, but she was horrified. She thought it was about 18” tall. Imagine how she felt when she discovered how small it was?

Not for the first time, I can tell you.

Was hoping to get there Sat on a, deep breath... m.sickle (SHOCK HORROR!!!). Had a great time (& a serious & debilitating attack of soberphobia!) 2 years back. I can't recommend this rally enough; seriously chilled, luuverly peeps & a totally sorted vibe. Sadly due to being a totally organised type (Pffff!) I only started the euro ped build (& spray) at the start of May so no Larling for me. Next year praps... Put it in your diary, you'd be daft not to :D

Great rally, great ride there... However, holed my piston on the way home!
Not had to call recovery for 2 years, so I guess the run had to end sometime!

Yep - a great 'old skool' rally & many thanks to the 8 Ballers.
A few pre-Euro issues were being identified I understand: a snapped rear shock and a seize for two on the way home that I know of.
