175 conversion

Postby stephena » Tue Aug 07, 2018 6:55 pm

At present my 125 gp has a 150 barrel bored out to 175 it has the 20 mil carb and scootopia clubman not the fastest but nice and smooth and keeps up with most on ride outs.I want to do a similar conversion on my li and am wondering if the gori 175 kit will be slightly better performance wise for the extra cost. Anyone using the gori ? Any comments appreciate. Thanks

Not using one, but I have had a good look at one, and it's beautifully finished.

For an extra £46 I’d plump for the 200 version, no substitute for cc’s ;)

I've got a Gori 200 kit on my TV175, it took a lot of tears & £'s to get it set up right for UK scootering, runs ace now, but it all depends on your wallet?
Lately I've recomended mates to rebore to 175cc, good quality 2-ringed piston, then get it all to Mick Abbey for extra transfers in barrel & piston & head scooping out if required, ends up like a mini Rapido, use a jetex 26mm & big bore exhaust. 8-)

I've also got the Gori 200.
It's like a nice std 200 - I was running it with a clubman and a scootopia 22mm but have now moved onto a bgm clubman and a 24mm pwk
Goes through the gears really well and hits 65 taking it carefully. Not impressed with the timing advice from M Gori which helped me melt a piston, though!!

The Gori kit is likely to cost more than the purchase price as you'll need to buy and set up a new carb (and preferably a filter arrangement) as well.

If you're happy with the 175 engine, then I'd stick with that - it's cheap and durable. The Gori kit will be quicker (not necessarily faster unless you start changing gearing) but may involve a much longer setting up time, more parts and will be more expensive.

You haven't mentioned what crank you have on the Li, but if it's an Li one, then the 175 kit will be OK with that. You'd be wise to fit the GP crank (+flywheel) if fitting the Gori. You can see how it can all get expensive1

Quick update. Decided to stick with the 175 conversion for the li 20mm carb again but stayed with standard exhaust runs the same as gp with same conversion but alot quieter.
