Just short of 900 miles from Europort..........

Just short of a 1000 miles from Calais.......

It's 2 weeks off work either way....

I think you’re right. I’d still love to go. Ferries to Germany and auto trains to Austria would have helped but, as far as I can see, have all been scrapped now.

I believe the train from Dusseldorf still runs to Innsbruck. Let the planning commence!

I’ve just punched this destination into Google Earth, and it is a bloody long way.

I remember seeing a sign for Budapest when I was riding around Vienna and thinking “I am a long way from home”, but the Polish site is beyond that.

We might be changing tyres when we get there.

Calais to Zakopane according to Google maps, avoiding motorways and toll roads ;) is less than 1100 miles direct. With getting lost once or twice, call it 1200.

Going to Abejar was just over 1150 for me, including getting lost, and Adria was about 1000, I can't remember exactly how much.

My point is this and I don't mean to preach... it is a long way and it is hard work (especially on an Italian stopping bike eh Andy?) but if you can get the time off work, if you can afford it (once bills and family holidays are sorted) and you want to do it then do it, you won't regret it.

I work in the trauma operating theatres at Addenbrookes Hospital and the amount of patients that leave for work in the morning only to have received some life changing injury during the course of the day doesn't bear thinking about. Don't regret having not done something.

Anyway, on a lighter note my plan at the moment is going via the EuroTunnel > Prague > Krakow > Zakopane > Budapest > EuroTunnel > home.

Maybe see you on route :D

It does indeed. Not sure it saves that many miles though.

Our usual group have decided that a backup van is essential and any breakdown, however minor, means straight into the van, even if it means a broken cable in the morning leaves you missing the rest of the day.

True but might save time. I think though if you get the Harwich to Hook ferry on the Saturday night, you can have a day off in Prague (the Tuesday) if you reach Kassel for the Sunday night.
Break it down into chunks and it'll be OK
