GT186/TSREvo

Postby Hughieboy » Fri Jun 07, 2019 1:52 pm

Just wondering...

I have a TSR Evo with a freshly fitted GT186 kit/Delly phbh 30 jetted as suggested by Richard Taylor.

Initial impressions, although running in is that it is very responsive and has plenty of power through the range and a definite power band that kicks in around 5000 rpm according to my rev counter (which I am currently trying to stay out of until it's run in!)

It's all good, but I'm thinking I might prefer it to be a little less 'lively' but without losing power. It's great, but I don't always want to be hitting a power band ' a la RD125LC' for those who remember them. Maybe a bit of a smoother delivery through the range, it's like an over energetic puppy... or a motocrosser!

Would a Clubman type pipe achieve this or would it flatten the performance? I'm really pleased with it, just wondering really.... Feel free to tell me I've achieved what it's for and to stop being picky!

Any particular one or any to avoid? Will I lose much performance?

I've never been an advocate of the TSR Evo on a GT as it's too low and the exhaust port of the GT is fragile. I speak from experience :-(

I put a MB Clubman on after the TSR and was very pleased with it, until the tailpipe fell off after not much use :(

If you can afford the Ron Moss then that’s the top choice followed by The Bgm V4

I’ve been reading your posts Donnie and of your TSR woes, in fact I think I may possibly have seen your scooter at a Tin Soldiers ride out once a couple of years back? Can’t remember how I recognised it as yours being as we don’t know each other, I think it was from your posts on here!

Anyway, I’ve had my TSR Evo on my S2 since they came out and before having to lower everything due to putting the GT kit on and the extra room needed for the inlet manifold I was pretty pleased with it. Since then though, it’s now just causing grief. It hits my ramp, even after shortening the stub and the downpipe collar and as I’ve had to move it forward to accommodate 8mm worth of base packers I added the tailpipe support which also needed fettling and fouls on my side panel! Initially it dragged the floor whenever I leaned any more than slightly into a bend but topping and tailing the stub/downpipe seems to have just about cured that but I’m not confident about not grounding out and causing myself further grief at some point.....

If I could fit something that gives a slightly smoother power delivery and sits a bit higher I would be happier. I’m also considering changing from 16/46 to 17/46 gearing as I have Pacemaker gears which are a bit lower than standard Li gears I believe.

Would you recommend the MB? Or what are you using now that’s sh** itself?

Ah, didn’t realise you’d changed from the GT.

Strangely, now I’ve done a few miles (60 or so) on the new Gt kit I’ve just done another 30 miles this afternoon and given it a bit of the odd handful and it does seem to work really well well with the TSR. I’ve put a bid in on a BGM V4 on eBay which will be interesting if it comes off but to be a bit fairer the grin factor this afternoon was good! I’d like to try a Clubman but otherwise I might get some bracketry sorted out to make the TSR fit better. Having gone into a couple of headwinds this afternoon I wonder if 17/46 might make it struggle in top with those fat leg shields.

We can but experiment!

Yep, gave up on the GT when I took of the BGM MB Clubman due to the tailpipe and the exhaust port of the GT fell off too :-/ it's all still sat in the shed since last year :-/ I had my old Muggy engine so put that in and went for the franspeed as it was too good a price not to.
