Noise in gearbox

Postby Strummer10 » Sun May 21, 2017 2:45 pm

Just floating this for ideas on a mate's scooter. Its a series 3 LI 150 with Casa 185 top end and new crank, bearings and seals. Rides OK and being run in but on idling it sounds like a bag of bolts jumping up and down inside, almost like the gear cogs are shaking and knocking against each other, but its correctly shimmed etc...........

When listening against the hub the sound is exaggerated and sounds worse. we are gonna rip the endplate and gearbox out and take a look but suggestions woul dbe useful ....thanks

Assuming that the noise is coming from the gearbox area, start the engine and let it tick over, then pull in the clutch and put the engine into gear, this stops the gearbox and christmas tree from spinning. So if this stops the noise it can only be coming from that area and if it doesn't stop the noise you know it will be coming from the chain, sprockets or clutch corks.

Hi

I have noticed this recently on my SX200 when on a low tick over, when I engage the clutch and 1st gear the noise goes away.

What is it?
