How to identify cylinders

Postby Scooter Paul » Mon Feb 03, 2020 3:35 pm

I have an Italian GP200 engine but I suspect the barrel might be an Indian stage 4. How can I identify if the barrel is Italian or Indian?

Lots and lots and lots of different cylinders out there, just about any one of which could be fitted. The easiest way to get a quick identification and/or rule some out is to have a look at he area to the side of the inlet manifold, which often carry identifying marks. This is the area that you can see if you take the carb off and then look at the area that the manifold bolts down onto.

Whilst some barrels have obvious identifying marks cast into this area, lots of barrels do not. As such, this is your first easy option but you may or may not be able to tell.

Feel free to post a photo, which may help us to help you.

Good luck.
