Motoplat stator and coil- how can I test them?

Postby Pompeydave » Fri Apr 24, 2020 5:32 pm

Hi all, I have a Motoplat stator, flywheel and coil. I’ve set them up in an engine on a test frame but I get no spark when it’s turned over. How can I test the Stator and coil? Is it same principle as per standard Italian/Indian ignitions?

Nobody know? I can’t find anything specific for the Lammy stator online.

A basic test would be check for coil and wire continuity and also if there is a fault to ground.

There are three possible faults, the pick up not working, LT coil not producing voltage or the HT coil failing.

Check for resistance and the results should be similar (I think) to a "standard" stator.

I feel awful when help is requested & nobody responds. But it doesn't affect me so that I wet the bed.... :P

For what it's worth, I have race based Motoplats, included amongst them working CDI's that function on the Serveta derived Motoplat. I've leant them out to locals in the past to help diagnose problems, so can post if required

Some CDI's have the take off terminal for a Motoplat tachometer & I also still have one of those.

I'm happy to put a meter across the CDI's but it might be best you post up here what you have as far as readings first as MickYork suggested?

Show me yours & I'll show you mine.... :?

Try this , from Bradford ignitions, Motaplat specialists, the Lambretta one is nearest to the TR32/33/34 stator .

Hi all. Tested it and it looks to be dead on all fronts. Oh well, it was worth a try. Switched over to a cheapo Indian kit instead. Thanks for the replies.
