i am sorry to appear so needy BUT one step forward and several backwards appear to be my natural state.
on another thread and with the help of you guys diagnosed a faulty LT coil on the stator, so ordered new one and began stripping the runners and flywheel cowl off. there was some oil on the cowl and underneath it was full of black oily gunk - it looked like it had done about 20,000 miles instead of the 500 odd it has done. engien had been vapour blasted before i rebuilt it.
i did wonder if my cylinder head had maybe come a little loose but it was running really nicely and had been on a Dyno and taken to really high revs the other week; I would assume this wouldn't be possible with a loose cylinder head?
when i took the flywheel off there was a little (very clean) looking oil at the bottom of the mag flange and potentially a trail leading to all the gunge at the bottom of the mag flange that extends under the head cowl.
my confusion is can two brand new oil seals on the mag flange go so quickly to let oil through there? is this ammount of black oily gunge usual 500 miles after a re-build and essentially a new engine?
