AF 5 speed

Postby 515paul » Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:04 am

hi
have just fitted a AF 5 Speed Gearbox, there is a slight clicking I have traced this to the 5th gear clicking on the layshaft, I know that all the gears line up, what I did was remove the layshaft fitted it to the end plate with the correct shim and the gear cluster, everything spot on,
the clicking only happens when you spin the rear wheel and not when you spin box using the clutch

put your first 4 gears on the layshaft with the selector in neutral , then spin 2nd gear and make sure that it does not catch the selector which causes a clicking sound.
ive had this a few times fitting these boxes.

morning chaps
wishbone is all trimmed down and plenty of room, if I just put the 5th gear on the layshaft and push it slightly you can feel it clicking against the brand new BGM layshaft,
and doesn't do it when I put the old 4 speed box in.

Try the old OEM layshaft.

I keep banging on about the fact that OEM items were made to a standard that it's doubtful any Tom, Dick, Harry or Mark can match. Even genuine SIL layshafts are up to critical standards.....
