Points stator to electronic

Can an Indian points stator be used for an electronic conversion? I have been looking at an old 6 volt points stator and it appears that all I would have to do to fit the pick up in place of the points is tap one hole 4mm and knock out the rivet so the locating pin on the pick up can go in the hole (12 volt electronic stators don’t have the rivet). Obviously I will replace the LT coil as well. I’m not bothered about the lighting coils because it’s only going to be used in the workshop as a test unit.

Iv'e used points stators in the past to convert to electronic. I dont remember having any problems.

I've done this and just gone full DC electronic. So the lighting coils are used to generate 12vdc in conjunction with a reg/rec. Then a 12vdc ignition module from Anthony Tambs. Originally I did try some Chinese moped ignition modules for 3 or 4 quid each, but they were extremely unreliable.

You could go to all that bother OR just use an external pickup such the Scootronics one, that way you can use the flywheel too

if you want the 12v lighting circuit then try to use the thick wired coils, I've had several 6v points stators converted to electronic

Thanks for all your replies. I’ve also been told that you have to remove some laminations on the points leg to lower the pick up height. Looking at a 12 volt electronic stator then pick up leg is three laminations lower than the coil legs
