Series 2 - Rear Brake Light OK but No Rear Running Light

Postby Granty » Tue Aug 30, 2022 9:45 pm

Seem to have lost my rear running light, brake light ok and all other lights / horn OK. Thoughts on where to start and fault finding please? Holder is late S2 with single bulb with 2 black & 1 pink wire. I'm assuming 1 x black is the earth & 1 x block comes from the loom? Problem has just started so at a loss with this one? Also maybe a coincidence but looks like my kill switch is on the way out too???? Help appreciated

Usually a bad earth somewhere in the system does that :?

Have you checked that power is at the wire feeding the rear light? If not is power being feed into it at the handlebar end.

Had the multi-meter out today, 12v in the black wire at the headset end & 12v at the rear light end .... assuming now it can only be the earth or bulb itself?

Strange thing now is that it seems to be intermittent -- just wondering if a dodgey kill switch could be effecting this? -- G

Or the bulb holder, is the contact in the holder pressing firmly on the bulb contact and are both contacts clean.

Will be climbing into this tonight & run a 2nd earth rear light end just to be sure -- i'll take it a shakedown. Need to get this fixed, couple of trips coming up here return journeys will be in the dark.

Logically it can't be anything else headset end, readings were exactly the same on the multi-meter either end of the black wire.
