SIP speedo issue

I've just fitted one of these to a mates scooter, when we fired it up the speedo lit up but none of the display worked only the illumination, I've seen posts on other forums that suggest if the temp sensor is fitted without a resistor plug/cap it can cause problems with the operation but would it stop it working all together?
