Leaking Breather

A friend of mine has just rebuilt his series 2..
but he has oil constantly leaking through the breather
says he's used the correct oil in the correct quantity
what could be the cause, please?

Drive side oil seal leaking?

I think you test for this by blocking the exhaust once it's running. If the seal is ok the motor stalls. If it's knackered the motor keeps running.

Can someone wiser than me confirm or deny this please?

Most likely the chain is flicking it up, I fitted a small pipe to mine but have found the stainless versions leak the most as they have a piece of sponge in them and no half moon plate.

The new shiny
ones are a simple dome no internals so leak like a tap out of the hole
