Engine cuts out.

Postby Cheersdude » Mon Jun 29, 2015 8:28 am

Hi all. Been having some trouble recently with the engine cutting out. My initial thought was the varitronic stator and after testing it I found it had a low reading across the coil. This has been replaced but the problem hasn't gone. The engine will start from cold and tick over ok, but will not go much further that half a mile before it cuts out and will not restart.
I've change the plug, ht cap, ht lead and cdi. Checked the timing. I've also checked the carb, the jets and the fuel flow rate, with no joy.
Where next?
The engine is a ts1 with a 34mm delly and done about 450 miles.
Any help greatly appreciated
Jon

Try running it without the fuel filler cap on , if its ok then you have a blocked breather in the cap , if it makes no difference at least you can rule that out .

Sorry forgot to add I've tried that, but it didn't make any difference.

Do a search under Varitronic on the website, there are a couple of threads where people had funny electrical faults that they couldn't diagnose.
Hope this helps
