Choke question

Just trying to troubleshoot/set-up the choke on standard 125 Li Series 3 18mm Dellorto and would like to know if the choke plunger should "clear" the choke tube when the choke is fully "on" and looking down the choke tube?
At the moment it pulls back to clear approximately two thirds of the tube.

The totally standard Li starts first kick from cold but then struggles to start so I'm embarking on narrowing the problem... though she will "bump" and run fine.

it's the closed position thats the important thing I don't think I've ever seen a std one that opens fully

Do you mean it struggles to start when warm ? if so the choke might not be closing fully.

Thanks fellas... I'm pretty confident the choke is fully closed but will double check.
Mick... Not so much "warm" but just once it's been started and then stopped, it won't start but will "bump" and run fine.

when you restart..... you're not giving it a 'bit of throttle' are you ?

You need to use zero throttle on starting or you'll defeat the stating setup ie pilot, slide and air screw .

No, on initial start from cold, when I hear her fire then I'll use throttle to "tickle" her revs up

if you need to 'tickle' the revs up there is something wrong with your setup for sure.
Either you have the idle speed set too high or your pilot is too rich or the air screw isn't set right or the choke isn't functing correctly or you have an air leak somewhere on the inlet or carb.

Your scoot should start second kick from cold with zero throttle and full choke and just sit there with a fast idle without any 'tickling' being necessary .

Thanks Johnny, I'll check the carb settings... I did notice that tickover was fast on normal idle.

no worries Jon its all just guesswork anyway based on our own personal experiences. Tuning these scoots is frustrating and time consuming. The fuel and ignition system is incredibly crude
Its a pity there wasn't a member neear your locale who could pop round and give you some help or support .
