TV3 front mudguard, 1964

Postby 911hillclimber » Fri Jul 17, 2015 12:21 pm

The TV I have came with an Li 125 front mud guard.
I think it should be fibre glass but were some TV's steel?

The new glass one I have is poor quality, the edge trimming is very uneven and the edge swage line too thin as a result.

The steel ones look far better!

Alternatively, does anyone do a GOOD glass one?

Thanks, Graham.

Hiya, just been looking at the picture of your mudguard on the other thread. Not all TV's came with a fibreglass mudguard and no-one can say for sure what ones had them. So a steel would be fine. Gransport scooters in Birmingham used to do a replica fibreglass mudguard that was pretty good. They also come up on eBay fairly regularly I'd go for the steel one anyway because the fibreglass ones are a balls ache becauce they crack so easy. I have one for my TV but been putting off fitting it because of it's history of cracking. I know nothing about all the different mudguards fitted but yours does not look right - maybe the angle of the photo? Good Luck

Gransport (now Dez cos he has left Gransport)

Steel would be my choice, but I want to keep it original spec as possible, hence the question.
Thanks for the reply!
Graham.

Have a look at Chris's website:

http://www.grpscooterparts.co.uk

If he doesn't already make them, he will make one for sure if a good donor part is available.

His components are the best I've seen & good prices too.

For example, his legshields are excellent in appearance as they have a gel coat on both sides.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the steel offer.

For now I will prep and paint the glass one I have, but if it look very wrong when on the scooter then I'll be back as it were.

In '68 when I had my 225/TV3 the guard was glass, a recent TV3/200 original throughout I saw was also glass, and the dealer with the scooter was insistent they all were glass on the TV3 175/200's

Other than this thread I've never seen or heard any evidence that a TV left the factory with a steel one.

The 2 books I have don't mention the front guard difference at all!

My TV Series 3 has a glass front mudguard. As far as I am aware all TV Series 3s were factory fitted with glass ones.

Thanks for the info.
I'll keep my glass one made 15 years ago, but saw one on google in glass where the design lines were very much sharper, £40 too...
