Rear wheel play

Postby Nbowe » Wed Jul 29, 2015 10:13 pm

Got a bit of play in rear wheel, not excessive but if I grab wheel and shake I can feel some movement.should it be solid with no play.its a GP 150.recently had casing off to tighten end plate bolt.seemed to be a bit of play on rear sprocket.dont know if that's related.hub is good and tight so it's not that.
Cheers.Nick

You always get some play in the rear hub, more than on a bike etc but if its more than the norm you need to look a bit further. When you say end plate bolt I assume you mean the bolts/nuts (6 from a bad memory) that hold the end plate into the casing behind the clutch. If it's not that you may have to start looking at the bearings

Does your gearbox need shimming? You will get play in your rear hub if the clearance between your gearbox endplate and first gear is too big. From memory I think the maximum allowable clearance is 0.3mm.

Cheers fellas.as I say its only minimal.it was one of the bolts holding the end plate which came loose which is now sorted.the solution may well be to shim gearbox
Thanks again
