Crown Wheels

Postby drivera » Fri Aug 07, 2015 11:18 am

I'm about to start the building of an engine for a series 2 I've picked up and in my box of bits I have several 46 teeth crownwheels , some are early types with the built in cush drive and the others are the later solid type . I know Sticky in his book says not to use the early types in tuned engines but what are they like in std 200 engines , anybody used one recently ??

A mate had one in a Rapido Classic, it broke the springs.

Cheers guys , my plan is a 185 kit which has been bored to 200 with a clubman type exhaust and a 20mm carb , so not super quick but not too slow ( hopefully ) just wondered if the cush drive type crown wheel would be ok , not sure what cc of engine they were used in ?

They were in early 125's and 150's.

As Sticky states they should be ok in anything other than a tuned motor but a solid one isn't too expensive....

I had the same dilemma when I rebuilt a series 2 150 engine. In the end and because it was relatively low cost, I put the more modern crown wheel in. As such I can now sleep at night.
