Drive Ratio

Postby Tony Hart » Fri Oct 23, 2015 2:28 pm

What benefit would I see by lowering the drive ratio on my S2? It has the original 125 gearbox with a iron 175 top end, 42mm casa S2 exhaust and a 20mm dellorto carb and at the moment has 15 x 46 sprockets. I currently have the engine pieces for other issues and have a 81 link Iwis chain and 17t front sprocket already which I was thinking of fitting (chain is better quality and newer than current one). Fitting these would lower drive ratio from 5.65:1 to 4.98:1 but what benefit/difference, if any, would I see. The bike is far from being a speed demon and I probably do 2 -2.5 thousand miles a year mainly longer distances to things like the C2C and commuting to Portsmouth.

Cheers

Tony, haven't you asked this question before, maybe on FB.? No matter, I had a very similar set up as yours with a 17x46 primary and found it to be a very useable scooter.

Cheers Paul. Not asked before but seem to remember someone recommending it with a 125 gearbox. Will give it ago.
