fitting tyres

Hello

I have some new rims + S83s - all good.
However I am having problems putting them together, have spent three evenings wrestling them in the front room

I have placed the tube, very slightly inflated, into the tyre and passed the valve through the rim.
I have then tried to place the rim within the tyre so that it sits with the bead just over the edge,
with a view to then placing the second rim in and then tightening the nuts and inflating to fit.
However I cannot get the first rim to sit within the bead.
I have some tyre slip from a local tyre fitter (their own stuff) but I still cannot get the rim over.

Can you advise if I am doing anything incorrectly please?

It sounds if you know the principles and are doing everything right. Sometimes they go together easily and other times theyre a pig. In situations like yours I rest the rim edge on two or three off cuts of 4"x4"" timber and push the tyre downwards to get it to start to seat on the rim. Using proper tyre soap is good. 'Fairy Liquid" contains acids that promote rusting. The one pitfall is that when you have both rims together you don't trap the inner tube between the mating halves.

Thanks for the tips!
I stuck the tyres on the radiator, balanced rim on some wood & used the GFs hairdryer on a low setting to warm the tyres.
Rims and beads doused in the tyre slip/soap i got from the tyre fitters near me. it looks like washing up liquid but isn't.

I think my problem was an O.E. to be honest as I was trying to fit them on the rims.
They only had to be on roughly enough to fit the other rim, a few lbs pressure on the pump and they popped into position, with an eye and poke on the tubes.

One thing that I do Andie is use wooden lolly sticks to push the slightly inflated tube back between the rims as I tighten the nuts up and remove them just as it starts gripping,

I've just done three on mine. S83's onto powdercoated rims. I guessed that it was the extra thickness of the powder coating that was making the tyres a tight fit on the rims. Then I had a lightbulb moment !....... tight fit ?......head off down to the pound shop and buy a few tubes of ' Sensual ' KY jelly type of err...... ' personal lubricant '. I figured that if it was fit for that purpose, it wouldn't be detrimental to the rubber on my tyres. The girl's face on the till was a picture, she looked at me like I was some sort of pervert. She didn't believe that I wanted it for tyre fitting. Neither did the people in the queue behind me. I exited red faced, but had what I came for ( excuse the pun ! ).

Yes, talcum powder works well. Used it when I was riding enduros.

lve had the same probes with new remade rims ....Actually gave up ....put old rims back on....not happy

They were fine in the end, the second one took about 5 minutes once i'd applied plenty of tyre slip and got the knack of letting the pump do the work.
The vendor (who kindly offered to send me a pair made up) suggested that the tyres are harder to fit as they are made for tubeless now.

I've just fitted a set of Conti Move 365's. Less than easy ,so the theory for tubeless fitment works for me.
