rear hub cone spacer washer

Hi All,
I have stripped down the rear hub on my GP to have a look at the brake shoes. After stripping and taking out the cone there is no spacer washer behind it. There was no play, and no binding from the hub before I stripped her. Any thoughts. Nearly forgot there was a little bit of oil coming from the sea, and I mean a little bit. But I as far as I am concerned it not a lot to worry about, not near enough to go near the brake shoes. But I will probably fit a new one since I am in there.

There hold be shim between the cone and the bearing. I'm sure it's there for a reason so you'd be advised to fit one on rebuild.
