Electrical problem??

Postby 69GP225 » Sun Jan 24, 2016 8:44 pm

Hello,

Have a 67 sx150, very original bike still have the original plug cap. I can start the bike and it revs but when I turn the lights on it drains the power. If I release the throttle it will idle. I've changed the HT lead & cap. Added an earth wire to the frame that was missing. All the lights and horn work.

Could it be timing?
Or should I try a different coil first? It's still running on points?

Anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks Lee

B7 or B8ES NGK and close the plug gap up a little.

Regardless of plug type, try closing the plug gap a little anyway and see if this helps, which is the old time temporary fix for thee symptoms. Whilst this is good practice anyway, it does suggest that you may need to get your flywheel remagnetized... but try closing the gap before you do anything else.

Probably the condenser at fault.

Like Adam is saying, I was told to close the plug gap and it did help. I then got the flywheel remagntised ,sorted.
