Anyone got any numbers on mileage they get from Michelin S83 (or similar) tyres? Particularly rear.

I'm fairly sure I read that S83's are made in different parts of the world and depending on where they are manufactured makes a difference on life span. (slight differences in compound). This also explains why you see deals on S83's such as 3 for as little as £60-£65.

As an informed guess, anything from 2,000 miles upwards, depending on what tyre pressures you ride on?

Aren't tyres subject to the same quality controls as,say SKF bearings which are made in different parts of the world,but still have to reach a certain level of quality before they can say they are made by SKF.

Apparently so, just aim to make sure the SKF bearings you use are the ones made in Germany (Like the S83's still produced in various factories across Europe).

Front or back?

I usually get around 1,500 - 2,000 on the back. God knows on the front.

I've been expecting too much then.
My rear tyre wore out before my very eyes during Mull trip. All I've done on it is Malton, Mull and local runabouts and longer rides around the country side. It probably does add up to 2000+ and I'm not gentle with it to be fair. Might try something other than S83.

I get about 2,600 miles give or take.
As said before, it does depend on tyre pressure, bhp & load carried etc. I find the S83 excellent in the wet, giving good grip & feedback.
Considering my rear motorcycle tyre (Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa) costs me £150 a pop & doesn't last as long, I don't think I'm too hard done by.
