Bugger of a job getting it back in.
Oh dear! I was unaware of the departure from OEM cage material until now!
That says volumes, to me!
This is my understanding:
(Typically NU2205E magneto bearings use non metallic cages & that is fine as it is not a Safety Critical area) Plastic cages are utilised where the Designer wishes to uprate the Dynamic (& Static) capacity of a bearing by enabling more rolling elements (balls or rollers) to be fitted & Phenolic Resin cages are utilised where high speeds are likely to be encountered.
Neither parameter needs to be applied to the Lambretta rear hub bearing despite what others may think & say, although that would change if a machine were subject to the kind of abuse encountered, say, in MotoCross or attempting a Land Speed Record @ about 300 mph!
So, although a metal cage of the riveted variety may appear a bit 'old fashioned' & not suit certain Manufacturer's Production Methods, I would strongly advocate that as the only type anybody should use in the instance of the rear hub.
(Please note that I only 'bang on' about this stuff because I am concerned about safety & that may make me appear very outspoken. My views don't coincide with everybody's but they are what I believe to be truthful, even if it does ruffle a few feathers in the process!)
