Old fuel tank full of rubbish.

I want to restore an old fuel tank, some rust inside and a layer of gunky crap below it. What came out was like syrup. Is there anything that will neutralise the inside and make it usable. Thanks.

save yourself loads of time and hassle - throw away and buy a replacement

Petrol and some pebbles - shake it all over.

Repeat until clear - it won't rust again if it's full of two stroke.

Wash out as much as poss, throw a handful of pebbles in, place in an old pillow case, make sure the missus is out, and put in washing machine for a few minutes, repeat a couple of times, then reseal the inside. Buy this from any major scooter shop like beedys/Camlam.

Brick acid from B&Q after you've got the worst of it out with pebble/nuts bolts paraffin or gunk .
Seal the outlet and leave the brick acid in a couple of days .

It's a bit of a faf and messy but all depends how bad the tank is ,if like me you try to save and mend what you can or just buy new.
Don't throw it away though someone may buy it to cannibalise and make a long range tank.

I never throw knackered parts away you never know they may come in for another use

I think you mean the tumble dryer. I do it this way and use an old duvet and fasten it up with bungee cords. Definately make sure the missus is out though.
Acetone is pretty good at dissolving the old fuel crap.

I used this after cleaning out my old failed sealant with paint stripper and removing rust with shingle and old nuts and bolts. Done the job, but was messy, dangerous if breathing in any paint stripper. Would look at buying a new remade tank , zinc coated ones, due to cost of materials used to strip and seal.
