The history is it's a standard surflex clutch but with LTH springs fitted, bit of what you might call a "mans clutch" snapped the first Scootopia cable within a 1000miles or so, second Scootopia one went within 300 miles of the first one incidentally as luck would have it it snapped as I was pulling onto Harry Barlows drive! Yes I know, you couldn't make it up..but anyway it did, then I fitted one of Harry's no idea what make it was but looked like the Scootopia one, well after another 3000 odd miles this ones snapped also!

In the mean time I got a rook of various cables from Allstyle Scooters, none of the clutch ones are long enough but can probably be used as front brake cables.

I've just dug out a braided "aircraft grade" clutch cable and for the life of me I can't think were I bought it from but it has a separate push on nipple so will see how this goes!

What cables are you guy's buying and what do you regard as good/bad etc? Btw mine always snap just by the lever I thought something must be rubbing but I can't see anything or am I missing something?

Is the cable getting wet/rained on or drying out, weakening and then breaking at that point? I had the same problem years ago, have always greased the cable around that area since then, problem solved.

Moral of the story... never go in dry :o :lol:

I did grease the end up in the hope that that was where the issue lay, only problem being last time I was able to poke a screwdriver in the lever end to jam the outer cable and poke the inner through, piece of piss then line the trunnion up between the "LI" on the engine number and job done away in 10 minutes.

This time however there was that much grease i couldent see we're to put the screwdriver (plus I never had me glasses) so has to admit defeat and ride home clutchless!

"Moral of the story...never go in dry" I'll remember to relate that one to the guys down on Brighton sea front :?

How far from the barrel did the cable break?

Is it rubbing on something? Inside the handlebar or the metal cap on the end of the outer cable?

Ive checked and de-burred everything but cant see anything obvious, might have to refit the YZ 80 springs and see how it goes.
