Jockeys Boxenstop Rear Brake advice

Off to the Euro Monday and cannot get the Jockeys Boxenstop rear brake set up on a Uni rear hub. Tried adjusting as per instructions and to be honest it is not much better than a standard set up.
Am I missing something? Is there any tips on getting these things to work?
Also is there any settling in period? It works to a degree but will it bed in?

Mine worked straight from the off. Had to fit the correct pivot pin (2 supplied) for the
brake cam. Also had to leave the pivot pin loose and fit the hub, then when the brakes been applied a few times to centre the shoes I had to remove the hub and tighten the pin. Also had to shorten my back brake cable to the correct length but now the brake arm at the back stops solid and locks the back wheel if needed. ( the best rear brake on a Lambretta I've had)

Have recently fitted two of these kits, one worked straight out of the box with no trouble, gotta remember not to hit the brake pedal too hard as back wheel locks really easily. The other needed a bit more setting up with extra care needed when removing the hub not to disturb the brake shoes when sliding it off.

Same problems, it's honestly no better than standard.
The brake slows you down but would never stop me, at low speeds it feels like the brake is pulsing, the scooter kind of jumps along, which I'm guessing is uneven brake shoe application on the hub.
The li cam does not work on the jockeys set up, as it makes the shoes too wide and the hub doesn't fit, so you have to run a GP cam.
Any ideas for rest brake improvement?

It sounds like your rear hub (brake drum) is possibly warped.
