Clutch basket Help

Postby compass » Wed Jan 24, 2018 8:09 am

Went to replace my clutch for a 5 plate, what seemed a simple quick job !

However my basket is steadfastly STUCK! Have tried heat and gentle tapping, had a second opinion last night and both concluded ITS STUCK lol. The only difference is that it is on the 5 speed box, so assuming the splines are ultra tight?

Any tips, ideas, anyone else had same trouble?

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem on my cyclone, for once I had some patience and kept tapping spline down and using a long lever under the basket moving around as I continued to tap spline. It came in the end.

Friend had a similar issue - his new cyclone cluster would not fit any basket . He sent it back to the dealer and they replaced or remachined it. The replacement was perfect

Tried heat, left to soak in WD40 over night, tapping and levering with patience until lever slipped and cut thumb open on casing stud, then tried with less patience.

It ain't moving

Would a puller help, not used one before ?

I use a 3 legged puller - Machine Mart do them. With a bit of jigging around I've always managed to get the clutch spider off using one :D

I've had a puller manufactured, just uses the plates retaining spring to hold in place, with bolt in middle to screw down onto xmas tree
where in country are you?
