Small block virgin

Postby wurzel » Thu Sep 04, 2014 9:28 pm

I'm going to build a small block engine for my kid brother and like me he's not getting any smaller.
He doesn't want to change the original casing out to put a 200 in but he wants something faster than
the 125 motor that was in it when bought.I've got a 175 top end,22mm jetex and 42mm AF Clubman
lying around. The thing is the only gearbox that he has is the original Li125 with 15 tooth front sprocket
and I've got a 46 tooth solid crown wheel he can have.Would this set up work well enough in a series 3
mostly ridden one up and give him a descent cruising speed.

He doesn't need a balls out race machine just a useable scooter and he hasn't got the money to put a Casa,
GT186 or RT kit on it,also the original Li crank is in good condition but he would like to put an electronic
kit on for reliability.Would the crank be ok or would you swap it for a GP crank and if so what crank would
be sufficient for this set up.

Would appreciate any feedback

Regards Mark

175 jetted and clubby should be good. Think you need a 16 tooth front sprocket with the 125 I'd though. If the crank is all good then no need to swap it just for the electronic. Just get the li version. This is pretty much what I did with my first li125 and it was good.

I ran that spec for a féw years, à good set up , should give him what hés looking for
Untill he wants more.
I had a 17 front. And it was too high.
A mid weight fly wheel will give the crank a better chance of not shearing.
Are thé points not reliable, an electronics set up is no gaurentee of reliability.

I suppose I could set it up on points and convert the lighting to 12Volt.
Would changing the gearbox to an Indian GP200 or an SX200 make much of a difference
as I've got my SX200 box that I took out to fit my Cyclone and I've also got a spare 47 tooth
crownwheel

Power out put will be similar to a bog standard 200
So it should be good on an Indian box and the short 3-4 step can only be a good thing.
