Hi, are you talking about registering it for the road and getting an age related plate or are you just wanting to get an already registered scooter included as a VHI?

If it is the former then yes it needs to be built and roadworthy as it may be randomly selected for inspection by SGI the agents who act for the DVLA.
If it is the latter then you can apply at any time but most normally do it when the (free) tax is due. You will need a V112 form which is obtainable from the Post Office and the Post Office can actually do it for you.

I had an inspection on Thursday under the same circumstances. The inspector who did mine said it didn't need to be roadworthy or even running. It just needed to be complete and have legitimate vin numbers. He also inspected my engine number because I'd declared it on my v55/5 application.

Luckily, he didn't want to inspect my horn, as it's disappointing at best. Sorry, I couldn't resist that.

Of course if I want to go out on it, it needs to be roadworthy or I'm liable to prosecution. Or worse still, an accident.

Just needs to be complete. Had mine done a month ago and the agents only check your scooter against the details you fill out on the v55/5. Frame number, engine number and mileage. The first scooter I registered didn't get a check the DVLA sent a logbook around a month after I sent the forms off. My second scooter had an inspection so I guess they pick them out at random. You don't need an mot, or insurance for the check. You will need insurance only if you need to ride the scooter to an inspection location but the agents will more than likely come to your home (or wherever you scooter is located)

How long after the inspection until you received v5?

I'm going to miss all this nice weather.

Good luck with registering......went to 4 Post offices before i found one who knew what a 112v (MOT exemption) was and how to fill in the "historic vehicle" box. The PO then sent the V5 away on the 25th June.......just got letter today saying they've lost the V5 !!!

going away at the beginning of August and would have liked to have taken a valid V5 with me ......guess i'll just have to wing it.

He never started mine. Was quite an amiable chap and explained what was required. Basically it has to look complete, have clear numbers with no signs of tampering and look like it could be made to run.

I've got an li3 in bits and I asked if i could register that. He said if I bolted it all together it would be ok, even if the engine is seized. BUT, if someone looking at the pictures notices a missing important component (he used carb as an example) then it would be a big fat no, because it can't be made to run without a carb.

The V112 form can be downloaded/printed from GOV.UK, same goes for most forms.

With the V55/5 form, you have to send off to the DVLA for the form. You cant download it.

So my v5 arrived yesterday and I have an L1 150. Thats ell one 150, if you get my drift. I heard they'd sorted that issue at the dvla. It's not keeping me awake l, but I'd rather sort it. Is it possible?
