Forgive for my ignorance but will a S3 long range tank fit in a S2?

Hi, it can sometimes depend on what type of long range tank it is, I've got the 13 litre double cut out type in both my series 1's & although its a bit of a tight squeeze between the toolbox & the frame/seat arch they do fit, hope this helps

Anyone with a 17 litre tank either has a very thirsty engine, or an arse made of steel.
I am at the age where I love a petrol stop, just so I stand-up for a bit. Ahh, that's better.

I've had issues in that respect, mainly caused by the little cups that the bottom rubbers are fitted into. I flattened them out to get one to fit.

I bought a mid range one that is fixed to air scoop and seat bolts - no straps, after assurances from a dealer that it would fit a S2 no problem
It was powder coated so went straight ahead and had it stripped and sprayed. Rookie mistake - was nowhere near fitting.
Had to get the lip taken off the front of it and re-welded and then repainted. Even then it’s the tightest squeeze and only just fits with serious persuasion.
Had to come out after 2 years as one of the brackets had snapped due to vibration. Yet another painting session
No idea why they don’t make them 0.5 litre smaller so they fit easier. Far east pile of shit but far better than a standard tank and having to watch mileage like a hawk.
Next time it has to come out I’m chopping part of it off and getting it welded up. May be an odd shape after but at least it will fit

Long range tank means less oil to carry to rallies up to 150 miles, for return journey.
Also easier if you end up strapping everything down and not being able to lift seat up.
Great for the long Sunday ride outs when you dont have to stop yo refill after 50-60 miles.

Oiltek told me they don't make the midrange tank now.Too time consuming to fabricate compared to the 17litre version.

Yes I heard that, shame as they are good tanks. A mate of mine took all the measurements and made a copy for another mate, I'll probably go down that route if I need another.
